A packed five days await, followed by a day trip to Aranjuez, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We can’t wait! Only a month away, AIMS International’s annual general meeting (14–19 June) is reason to celebrate. It is, after all, the first chance that we have had as an organisation to meet, share, learn, and deliberate in person since the pandemic started. “Video meetings can be incredibly efficient, but you have to strike a balance,” Nicholas Rogier, Managing Partner AIMS International France told us earlier this year. “Face-to-face meetings remain essential; it’s human nature to gather, share, and build together.” Who would disagree, especially when you consider how different our world sometimes feels from the one we knew two and a bit years ago? Happily, 70 colleagues have so far confirmed their attendance, and we expect more to do so in the coming weeks.

Sunrise Medical’s Rohit Sathe shares his team’s efforts at environmental sustainability. For the third in our series of interviews on sustainability in procurement (catch up on parts one and two), AIMS International reconnected with Rohit Sathe, Chief Procurement Officer at personal mobility manufacturer Sunrise Medical. Having heard his thoughts on procurement’s contribution to organizational agility and resilience, we wanted his perspective on environmental sustainability. Sathe starts off saying, “The 3R model for the circular economy – reduce, reuse, recycle – needs updating. Recycling adds processes to waste management, from recovery of materials to sorting them to production of new goods. These processes require energy and other resources themselves. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done, of course, but, from my perspective, it becomes more important to source materials that are easy to separate and have a high recyclability value”, he explains.
